California Traditional Master Bedroom
The Master Bedroom in our #CaliforniaTraditional project was designed to be a total oasis for our clients. With a large family who they host frequently, we wanted to create a space for them to relax and enjoy quiet time away from the rest of the home. Just like every furnishing project for our clients, we focus on finding a balance between big ticket splurge items and high-quality but more affordable items to save on. Our rule of thumb is to always invest in items you’ll touch every day, like frequently used furniture, fixtures or pillows.
“Invest in the items you’ll touch every day, like frequently used furniture, fixtures, or pillows.”
In this master bedroom, we splurged on the classic linen tufted bed and the beautiful upholstered accent bench. Because both of those were going to be used daily and are the first things you see as you enter the room, we wanted to invest in quality pieces. To provide balance, we saved on a rug because over time, that will likely be the item she’d like to swap. We also saved by using a series of three beautiful prints from Target above the bed instead of investing in original artwork.
Another creative solution we came up with for our clients in this space were the custom draperies. We opted for Pottery Barn curtains longer than we actually needed, which allowed us to hang the draperies higher on the wall. We let them puddle slightly at the bottom and hemmed them to size, creating a more luxurious, custom look
The final reveal of this California Traditional master bedroom is layered, collected, bright and airy. It has our signature California cool vibe but in a very traditional way that complements both the home’s bones and the client’s lifestyle. If you missed it last week, catch the living and dining room reveal here.
