Kitchen Reveal: Hermosa Beach

Hermosa Beach Kitchen Reveal: Green and white kitchen design by Lindsey Brooke Design.jpg

Happy Father’s Day, friends! Hope you had a relaxing weekend with the fam and got to spoil the dads in your life. We’re so excited to be revealing our latest remodel project! When our clients had purchased this home in the heart of Hermosa Beach, they had every intention of remodeling it themselves, but quickly realized they were going to want some help. That’s where we came in!

When we arrived to the project, we were truly working with a blank canvas. The owners had completely gutted the project and what was left was a new empty box. The house is small but mighty and we wanted to make sure each space was designed with a purpose.

What makes this space unique is the kitchen is actually upstairs in the open floor plan, adjacent to the dining and living spaces. We wanted to make sure the design was unique and classic all at the same time. We needed the spaces to blend seamlessly, so we decided on a color pallet and incorporated it into every inch of the rooms to make them feel connected and cohesive. While each space is unique and serve their distinct purpose, they have a common thread as well.

The kitchen is the heart of this open floor plan design, so we wanted to keep it fairly neutral in case my clients ever decided they wanted to change their decor, the kitchen would match. We wanted to create interest so we did the island a warm grey color and kept the perimeter white. To keep your eye moving and add visual interest, we paneled all the appliance so they didn’t chop up the seamless cabinetry. Finally, we opted to not have pendant lights - we didn’t want to block the view to the living room or complete with the pretty pendants we installed over the dining table.

Because of our clients’ close proximity to the ocean, they wanted a casual, beachy feel without going full on beach house. Adding in warm wood tones was an easy fit. The warm toned wood added texture to the space and a warmth against all the white. We brought in additional warmth with the detailing on the hardware and lighting. One of my favorite details in the kitchen are the extended bar pulls on the kitchen drawers.
They feel substantial and totally custom without competing with the overall design.

I love how the final design came together - mixing traditional shapes in a bright and modern way to accommodate the open floor plan. Looking for more kitchen inspo? Check out our Oak Hills Kitchen, our Tierra Drive Remodel, and our Mulholland Drive Project kitchen and dining room.
