The Best Neutral Paint Colors

Selecting the right neutral paint color is one of the hardest parts of design. There are infinite things to consider when selecting the right white. The amount of natural light, the direction a wall faces, the type of ambient light, what light bulbs you use, the color of the furniture… the list goes on.

This is often the phase of a new build or renovation project where we get the 911 calls from inquiring clients because they feel overwhelmed and know it’s time to bring on an expert. It’s also one of our most frequently asked questions on Instagram and during our Monday Mentor Sessions.

Well friends, the wait is over! We’ve compiled a list of our favorite neutral paint colors. Over the last five years, we’ve been able to narrow down our top picks to a handful of perfect neutrals. Now, with every new project, our team knows to start with this list and start narrowing down from there. Looking at the six paint swatches you probably won’t have any idea how to differentiate them. Below, we’ve included examples of how each looks in different spaces.

CHANTILLY LACE

Chantilly lace is a beautiful bright white that is very cool in tone. It’s perfect for balancing out warm afternoon light for a more consistent, modern white throughout the day.

GRAY OWL

A cool gray, we love this color so much we used it in the LBD office! If you’re wanting something not-so-white that is still bright, airy, and light reflective, this is a great option.

CLOUD WHITE

A creamier, softer white than Chantilly Lace, Cloud White is a happy, timeless white. We love balancing gray floors with this soft white for a well balanced space.

MOONSHINE

A brighter, warmer gray than Owl Gray, Moonshine is the prettiest greige out there. It’s soft and subtle, but lets white trim and millwork really shine.
